Description

Ndofaya Tour

If you want to get a low down of South African history then this tour is definitely an experience we strongly recommend. Get to know a side of Soweto that is rarely explored- we sometimes break out of our normal tour route to visit one or two households, as our information person proceeds with the tour he is also not afraid to delve into his artistic nature and burst into beautiful struggle poems.

"Although the bitterness stung in us/ And the earth around us”- Don Mattera

The above quote is an example of genius minds that used to dwell in what was known as South Africa’s Harlem. Sophiatown was known to be the hub of South African urban culture that was also respected for its community of influential literary, political and business figures. Hugh Masekela, Jonas Gwangwa, Mirriam Makeba, Can Themba, Nelson Mandela and many other famous people have fond memories of Sophiatown.

Our guide in Ndofaya is an Individual who had a lot of experience during the apartheid era, he is the offspring of the youth of 1976, his heart and soul was manufactured, packed, and polished in the ghetto. He is a local celebrity, you will not move two blocks without having people greet him, which will also enhance your experience, be part of the meet and greet and that moment is what we call the touch of Soweto. Every step you take on this tour is a dust to dust experience, just to remind you about the people at ground root level, come meet the people- no come and meet the right people.
